As the playa is the largest piece of flatland in North America, the most efficient mode of transportation is the bicycle. BRC is just under 2 miles wide, so even riding slowly and safely, as you should, getting from one point to another is easily done.

While The Spirit of Burning Man would suggest that thievery and deceit wouldn't be factors, you would be wrong to assume this. Property can get stolen, if you are careless. For bicycles, a lock should be used whenever leaving the bike alone, even in camp if nobody is going to be watching it.

As with everything else on the playa, with your bicycle you need to be prepared for everything. Get spare tubes (that's pluralized). Bring a pump, as you might find that releasing a little air from the tires makes riding on loose playa a little easier, and if you don't have the pump you can't adjust for this ideal pressure. If you have a basket, saddlebags, etc., any accessories will make life on the playa easier for you. Also, be sure you have all the tools required for preforming maintenance on your bike!

Again, as with many things on the playa, your bike can be an outlet for your creative endeavours. Decorate it. Make it alive. Make it unique. In standing out, you're participating, and making it easier to spot while exiting some club on The Esplanade upon a sea of bikes.
