Comments

We would prefer placement very near to porta-potties. Same corner, or adjacent would be perfect. A corner-spot on a block would be ideal, as we would like to use the benefits of that placement for our scheduled events.

Physical Description

The main section of camp will consist of a custom 20'x50' metal-pole canopy, with 4 smaller 10'x20' metal-pole canopies. Canopies will all be tied down to properly sized rebar stakes. A 15' PVC dome will be used towards the back of the structure, covered with a parachute and tied down to longer rebar stakes. Ground-covering will be applied to all shaded areas and dome-space, to prevent damage to the playa surface and keep dust down within the general area. Large signs for camp name and events will be erected, as well as a multitude of flags on taller PVC poles. Sectioned areas utilized for specific tent and both travel-trailer and tent-trailer placement behind the main shaded area. Space also sectioned for a large (appropriately calculated sized) evaporation tray, for use by all members of camp. Cars will be used mostly to form a barrier around the entire camp, but will be focused on protecting the integrity of the evaporation tray, as we have had issues of outside-use in the past. Space behind the evaporation tray, and protected by the perimeter of cars, will be used for the single gasoline generator. The generator will be enclosed within a sound protective box, with proper ventilation, as seen on layout map. No post-holes will be required for any structures.

Interactivity Description

Our specific goal is to facilitate a general space for the Black Rock City Combat Club. Other events will include performances by in-camp musicians, a lip-synch performance piece called Journey Friday and Yoga sessions from a camp member who is a Kundalini Yoga instructor.

The Black Rock City Combat Club is an in-camp set of scheduled events which aim to bring together martial artists and combat sport players of all styles and give them a place to train while at Burning Man. We also aim to share combat sports with the rest of the community and give those interested a first hand look at modern martial arts. Individuals of all ages and experience (you too beginners!) are welcome to participate, train, and share techniques.

In-camp musicians will utilize the PA-system for "jamming" and performance as impromptu band shows.

Journey Friday is a performance piece, by 4 members of our camp, based on the music of the band Journey. This will be a lip-sync show, with a rehearsed performance which will have the feel of a live band show. This will take place at noon on the Friday before the Burn. A "Styx Saturday" show may be added, as well.

Scheduled Yoga sessions provided by a Kundalini Yoga instructor will also be held, utilizing the general shaded space in camp.

Leave No Trace plan

Throughout the week, a "don't let it hit the ground" policy will be used. Ground covering for all group areas will be used to reduce the instance of tiny pieces of trash getting ground in to the playa, or in the cracks of the playa surface. Upon the departure of any members of camp, a sweep will be conducted to intensely search for minute pieces of trash, stakes and other traces. On Sunday morning, the dis-assembly of the larger structures in camp will be done and sweeps will be conducted, as the structures come down. Once the largest portions of camp have been removed, cars and other vehicles will be moved to uncover spaces where trash and other particles can easily hide. A final sweep of the area we used, as well as the surrounding spaces, will be conducted for at least 2 hours (per person) on Sunday. Every member of camp will walk the space in a grid to get complete coverage of the area and ensure that the space is checked and re-checked. Trash and other debris from the surrounding area (including space used by other camps) will be collected and added to our trash. Monday morning, the entire space will be checked again for at least 1 hour (per person) prior to departure, by all members of camp, to ensure that no traces were missed by the initial sweep.
